Buried in Harry Reid’s version of the Obamacare bill, is a “minor” item that allows Obamacare to pass with 51 votes, but it will take 67 votes to repeal. For 200 years the senate has ruled that it takes 67 votes to change the rules of the senate, but Mr Reid and company have decided it only takes 51. Sadly the Supreme Court routinely stays out of Senate business, so they will probably get away with it. What are they thinking?? Next term the Republicans can pull the same stunt.
The coarsening of political discourse is Obama’s biggest gift to the American people, and he ran on a platform of bringing us together. He was a liar.
Obama’s staff and congressional leadership have truly come unhinged. Their belief that Obvama’s polling will actually go up and the 2010 backlash will be minimal are stunning miscalculations. It’s too bad they didn’t actually negotiate a compromise with conservatives. If they did, they might actually have a chance to remain in power and make some positive changes. I think we will see wholesale replacement of democrats in 2010, either by republicans or dem opponents. Republicans might suffer as well, when the electorate attempt to replace every incumbent.
Why push people into an insurrection? What does Obama gain?

It appears that the senate will ignore the will of the people and pass the Obamacare bill. A messy fight will determine what parts of the senate and house bills will be in the final version. The big question is, what will happen to the 2010 and 2012 elections if it passes. Pundits are saying both that Obama’s numbers will spike upward immediately, and others are saying the dems are committing political suicide.
While I hope it’s suicide, I find it difficult to believe this many dem senators are willing to get thrown out of office to give Obama a policy win. Harry Reid may be an exception. I think he knows he’s going to lose next year, and truely believes passing this garbage will be the highlight of his career. Too bad he will be dead before he can see how much damage he’s done to our supposedly free society.
Will Tea Partiers make the strategic blunder of splitting the Republican party and handing a win to Obama in 2012? Will the dems mutiny against Obama and back Hillary?
It would be more fun to watch if the stakes weren’t so high. Watching Obama is like watching Hoover destroy the recovery from the depression.
Sometime in the past week, hackers broke into the files of the Hadley Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia and published 61 megabites of confidential files on the internet.
One of the tenants of pure science is that scientific investigations are supposed to be completely open, with methods subject to peer review and results are duplicatable by others. This is referred to as the scientific method and is not subject to the whims of emotion or politicians. Think back to the days when Galileo was in fear of his life for supposing the world was round and you can understand how important it is for scientists to be able to deliver objective truths.
Occassionally scientists fall to internal or peer pressures to prove their theories, usually after working on a problem for decades and learning they were on the wrong path. No one wants to admit that decades of work were in vain, and while wrong, we can understand their desire to salvage their reputation.
For the past two decades or so, there has been tremendous pressure in the climate science community to come up with proofs the public will accept and act on. Al Gore is the most famous example of this. His movie is full of factual errors. Noteably, many consider his message important enough they ignore the errors and assume the public is so unsophisticated that proof is unnecessary.
I don’t know if global warming is happening, or if it’s human caused. If it is, scientists that fabricate data, ignore data that doesn’t it their theory, and applaud the death of a scientist with a different viewpoint , seriously undermine the case for global warming and feed into public sceptcism.
